Quick answers to the questions we hear most about HorseBook.

What is HorseBook?

HorseBook keeps your horses' records, papers, and important dates in one place — health history, documents, expenses, riding logs, and breeding, plus reminders so you don't miss a Coggins or a booster. It's built for folks running anywhere from one horse to a busy barn.

Who's it for?

Horse owners, small farms, breeders, and barn managers — anyone currently keeping horse records in a filing cabinet, a spreadsheet, or their head. If you've ever gone looking for a Coggins the morning of a show, it's for you.

Does it work on both the web and iPhone?

Yes, and they're equals. Your account works on both, and your data syncs automatically — sign up on one, use both. The web dashboard and the iPhone app cover the same ground: horses, health records, documents, scanning, expenses, contacts, reminders, and the full mare and stallion breeding tools.

The differences are about where you are, not what you can do. The iPhone leans on its camera for scanning at the barn; the web has a drag-and-drop upload hub for when you're at a desk with a stack of PDFs. Same records, same features, different hands.

How does the free trial work?

Every new account gets a 14-day free trial with full access to everything. No credit card to start. When it ends, you pick a plan — your data stays put either way. See Billing & plans.

What can the scanner read?

The AI reader recognizes the paperwork horse people actually deal with:

  • Coggins tests (EIA) — lab, date, result, accession number
  • Registration papers — identity, breed, registration number, sire and dam
  • Health certificates (CVIs) — vet, travel dates, origin and destination
  • Vaccine and medical records — type, date, next-due date
  • Vet and farrier receipts — vendor, amount, date → an expense
  • Genetic test results

How many scans do I get?

Reading a document uses one scan from your monthly allowance: 20/month during the trial, 5/month on Hobby, 200/month on Pro. Typing records in by hand is unlimited on every plan — the count only covers the AI reader.

How accurate is the scanning?

Very good on clean, printed documents — it reads the text, finds the fields, and fills them in correctly the large majority of the time. A faded fax or a phone photo at a bad angle is harder. That's why every scan ends on a review screen: you check the important fields — results, dates, amounts, registration numbers — and fix anything before it saves. Nothing's created behind your back.

Is my data secure?

Yes. Your records are private to your account and isolated at the database level (row-level security), so no other user can see your data. Everything's encrypted in transit and at rest, and it's hosted on Supabase. We don't sell your data.

What works offline on the iPhone?

You can browse your horses and their recent records offline — the app keeps a local copy. Scanning, creating or editing records, and syncing need a connection (scanning reads the document on our server). When you're back online, anything you changed syncs automatically.

Can I export my records?

Yes — on the Pro plan. You can export a herd roster as CSV and generate PDF record packets for individual horses (handy for a sale, an insurance claim, or a new vet). Look under Reports. It's open during your trial too.

Is there an Android app?

There's no native Android app in the Play Store. But the web app works in a mobile browser, and you can install it to your home screen like an app. Android folks get the full dashboard that way.

How do I change or cancel my plan?

If you subscribed on the web, manage it in your billing settings (handled through Stripe). If you subscribed in the iPhone app, manage it through Apple in your iPhone's Subscriptions settings. Details on Billing & plans.

Can I delete my account and all my data?

Yes. Go to Settings → Delete Account. It permanently removes your account and everything in it — horses, records, documents, files.

Warning

Account deletion is permanent and can't be undone. Export anything you want to keep first.
