Billing & plans

The 14-day free trial, what you get on Hobby vs. Pro, and how to change or cancel.

HorseBook starts with a free trial, then it's a small monthly (or yearly) subscription. This page lays out exactly what's on each plan and how to manage your billing — no surprises.

The free trial

Every new account gets a 14-day free trial with full access to everything — add horses, scan documents, track breeding, run reports, the lot. No credit card required to start. When the trial ends, you pick a plan to keep going; your data's all still there either way.

The plans

Hobby — $4.99/month

  • Up to 3 horses
  • 5 document scans per month
  • Unlimited records — health, expenses, riding, breeding, contacts
  • The morning reminder, care plans, and document storage

Good for one or a few horses at a single barn.

Pro — $9.99/month, or $99.99/year

That's about 17% off the monthly rate.

  • Unlimited horses
  • 200 document scans per month
  • Everything in Hobby, plus the operator tools below

Typing records in by hand is unlimited on every plan — the monthly scan count only covers the AI document reader.

What's Pro-only

Most of HorseBook is on every plan, including care plans and the full breeding tools. A handful of features for running a bigger or busier operation are Pro:

  • Outside & boarded horses — track horses you don't own, with their owner as a linked contact
  • Farm locations — group horses by barn or pasture, and move them in bulk
  • Archiving — retire horses that sell or go out on lease, keeping their records
  • Reports — herd roster exports and per-horse PDF record packets (CSV and PDF)

You'll see these on Hobby with an upgrade nudge, and they're all fully open during your trial so you can try before deciding.

Free on every plan

Care plans (group scheduling), the morning reminder, riding & training logs, and the full mare and stallion breeding tools are included on every plan, Hobby included.

Subscribing, changing, and canceling

Where you manage billing depends on where you subscribed.

Subscribed on the web? Web subscriptions are handled through Stripe. Go to your billing settings on the web to switch between monthly and yearly, update your card, or cancel. Cancel and you keep access through the end of the period you've paid for.

Subscribed on iPhone? Subscriptions bought in the iPhone app are billed by Apple through your App Store account. To change or cancel one, manage it in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone (or in the App Store) — that's Apple's system, not something the app can cancel for you.

Your account and data are the same either way — the only difference is who processes the payment.

Common billing questions

  • Do I need a card to try it? No. The 14-day trial needs no card.
  • What happens to my data if I don't subscribe? It stays in your account. You just can't add past the free limits until you pick a plan.
  • Yearly vs. monthly? Yearly Pro runs $99.99 — roughly two months free compared to paying monthly.
  • Refunds? For App Store purchases, refunds go through Apple. For web, email us at support@horsebook.app.

Still stuck on billing? Email support@horsebook.app and we'll sort it out.
